As many people around the world I am a huge movie buff.  I find that I am often in disagreement with critics.

This is very true when it comes to Alien VS Predator 2   ….Requiem.

I recently opened my local paper and find a very harsh review of it that compared it to the likes of Jason VS Freddy, and relegated it to camp.  The review went on to say how the original aliens movie had the shock moment of the first alien chest burst and that all the trademark moments has already been done and thus the AVP2 was just a rehash of the other movies. 

To a point that is true, but they have to do that, certain things are expected out of the two big stars of the movie…….the aliens and the predators.

This movie takes off where the first AVP movie ended, aboard a predator ship.  Unknown to the predators their dead buddy they are transporting has an alien in his chest.  Predictably it bursts out and causes the ship to crash to earth.

Which is what many alien fans have wanted to see……. what would happen should an alien hive start on earth.

New to this movie the predalien.    Alien fan-boys know of course that whatever species is host to an alien face-hugger is going to be part of its look when it is all grown up and ready to sink it’s teeth into someone. So, new to this AVP installment is  a really bad ass looking Predator/Alien hybrid.

The predalien is the head honcho since their is no queen, he’s bigger and tougher than the others and it the alien that will go toe to toe with the predator in the final fight.  And he’s quite scary.   Even though he’s not a queen he still manages to produce more aliens in a very disturbing scene.

That is what really separates this movie from the first AVP.  This one is very gory, very horror, while at the same time being very action.   The first AVP was just too tame in my and a lot of fan-boys opinions.

The one gripe I have about the movie is that their is only one predator hunting a whole hive of aliens.   Aren’t these guys super advanced?   If they were going to do an extermination wouldn’t they have the sense to bring a whole shipload of predators?

Other than not having enough predators, both the predators and the aliens were well done in this movie and lived up to their separate movie franchises.   I felt in the first AVP that the aliens were just something for the predators to kill.

I guess they will save a whole gang of predators  for AVP3?

The acting in this movie by the humans is a lot better than I thought it would be, in fact it was top notch, which made the movie seem even more real.  

Some people will complain that Ripley from the Aliens series isn’t in this, or at least a replacement………..Like they tried to do with the first AVP.    Ripley is dead, get over it, both the Aliens and Predators are interesting enough to stand on their own in a movie.

In conclusion this movie was really worth going to see in the theatre.
