Often time I get into the argument with people that think to be good at singing you have to be born with it.  True some people have more natural ability, but you can learn to sing exceptionally even if you have never done so in your life.   That is, provided that you learn the right techniques and keep practicing.

Some people think that anyone with a good voice was just born with it.  This is simply not true.  It is simply that these people had a will to sing at a young age and kept practicing and improving.

Singing is just like any physical endeavor, the longer you do it the better you will get at doing it.  Just like lifting weights.  If you do the proper workouts and watch your diet eventually you will get larger muscles.  The same basic principal is true of singing.

Just like in weightlifting if you use poor technique or try something that is too difficult to soon, you can hurt yourself and impede your improvement.

I am a vocal coach and have witnessed many of my students who have come in to me with little or no vocal skill turn themselves into good singers.

I myself only started singing as late as fifteen years old.  When I started with my first rock band it did not sound good at all. I knew it and so did anyone listening.   However I found that I did enjoy singing and took many, many, many lessons and learned quite a bit.

Now I have a singing voice that sounds good and really impresses people.  Yet, I wasn’t born with any natural talent for singing.  All of my skill was built through regular practice and the correct application of techniques.
