Anyone who discusses astral projection will agree on one thing about it.  That in order to achieve a projection you must be conscious while your body is asleep, this allows the astral energy of the person to project outward from the physical body.

What follows is my personal meditation that I often use before sleep.  Consequently, it also helps me fall into a deep sleep much quicker regardless of if I project or not.

You must not have any tight fitting or uncomfortable/binding clothing on. You should make yourself as comfortable as you can.

If you have any tightness in any part of your body stretch it out or flex and release until it is gone.

Start with steady breathing and gradually slow the breathing down to the very slight type of relaxed breathing you do when actually asleep.

Now starting at the toes imagine a tingle or warmth in the toes, when you can actually feel it start to gradually move it up your body until it reaches the top of your head.

This should have you even more relaxed.

This is the start of what some call energy manipulation.

If you can’t feel any movement of energy, then gently take one of your index fingers and very very lightly draw a small circle on the back of your other hand as you keep your eyes close and keep your breathing relaxed. 

Draw the circle for a few moments concentrating on the very slight topical sensation.  Then put your hand back down but keep concentrating on the center of energy you have started.  

Imagine this energy growing and then pulsing up and down the length of your body.

As you do this keep your body very relaxed and your breathing slow and steady. 

When you get good at this you will feel a substantial pulse of energy run up and down your body.  Your eyelids may feel as if they are twitching as well.  This means you are almost in a mind awake body asleep state.

Try to maintain this state as long as you can.  Do not let your thoughts focus too hard on anyone thing or you will stop it.  You may even feel very light as if you are about to float.

At this point I usually give myself a hypnotic suggestion that I will become awake in my sleep, and then relax my mental focus and let myself fall totally asleep.

More often than not I have a waking dream/ Projection later on in my sleep.
