I must admit so far I am very disappointed in this course. With the 8 discs that came with the course I assumed their would be loads of exercises that would help me develop perfect pitch.
I followed the instructions and did one class a day for the first three days. Then I became impatient because every class was simply a repeat of the last one with a slightly different exercise, which amounted to picking two pitches and singing them, trying to memorize them, and then sing with without your instrument of choice. Another thing I didn’t like was that some of the exercises require that you play piano or keyboard, if you don’t he has an exercise but that leaves you with one exercise.
In actuality most of the classes are the author of the course explaining over and over again what perfect pitch it. I understood it from your site, the book that came with the course, and the first CD…….. I don’t need to hear it over and over on every lesson just to get to one exercise which takes up a minute of time on the CD. Also, there is about 30-60 seconds of the same annoying intro music on each CD……just start already.
Now keep in mind I haven’t gone through the whole course, so maybe the last three discs have some nuggets of information he is building up to. But, frankly so far the first five discs could have easily been boiled down and put on one disc.
There is a reason however I haven’t opened the last three discs. When I got to them, they were sealed with a notice about the 40 day guarantee stating that, ” To KEEP your super-course and continue, open these last three CD’s which contain all your advanced master classes plus your perfect pitch for children bonus session.”
So, basically it’s saying that if I open these last three discs then I don’t get to return the course because opening the sealed disc is an agreement that I’m keeping them………………..slick………………….I didn’t see that on the sales pitch page.
So far this course doesn’t have any mind blowing exercises that help you to easily recognize pitch. I’m not one for gimmicks and I’m not afraid to work at something. But, so far the course hasn’t even given a really well laid out set of exercises you can do. Add this to the fact you have to listen to hours of this guy talking about perfect pitch to get to just a few exercises and it gets frustrating and time consuming, without ever working on perfect pitch.
A real teacher knows that students learn very little from being talked to, they need to actually do something interactive and see a result to really learn.
Maybe it’s me. I’m the type of guy that understands things very easily. I just want to cut to the chase. Tell me to do this, to get this effect, don’t waste my time with a lot of hot air. I envisioned popping a disc in and going to work.
Another thing this course overlooks, so far, is what if someone has this course but doesn’t play or own an instrument that they can strike and identify keys with? So, far there is no one playing a piano and running you through exercises or something of that nature. They want you to pick up your own instrument and plunk on notes and do the exercises, kind of hard if you don’t have an instrument. If this doesn’t have it in the course…..maybe on the last three discs….. then this course is incomplete. At least ship it with some sort of midi, virtual keyboard program, so you can plunk notes on your computer.
Now in my last article about this course I stated that I liked it and thought it would work. Well, maybe it still will. I’m not giving up on it yet, there is still three CD’s I have yet to open…………………. if I want to give up the possibility of a refund.
Hopefully the rest of course gives me some concrete exercises and workout routines to develop my ear and are not just more talk about what perfect pitch is.
